ELIGIBILITY
A.FULL-TIME PROGRAMME :
i. Candidates with 55% Marks and above in the PG degree in the concerned or related discipline and with or without M.Phil. degree programme; For SC/ST candidates, 50% marks in P.G. course is sufficient.
ii. Candidates with 55% of marks and above in the PG degree in the concerned or related discipline and working as a Junior Research / Senior Research Fellow or as Full-time Research Assistants / Technical Assistants in time bound research schemes in the University Departments. Research Departments of Affiliated Colleges / Recognized Research Institutes.
B. PART-TIME PROGRAMME :
Candidates belonging to following categories are eligible to register for part-time Ph.D. programme.
i. "Any person employed in any concern/organisation / institution, situated within the jurisdiction of the State of Tamilnadu / Research institutions recognized by Bharathiar University situated outside the state of Tamilnadu, after obtaining the Master's degree with a minimum of 50% of marks in the qualifying examination. Such candidates shall produce a no-objection certificate from the employer or head of the institution (in case of educational institutions)
ii. No temporary / conditionally appointed / guest lecturers in the University departments be considered for admission to part-time researchers in the University departments.
iii. Further conditionally appointed / temporary / Guest lecturers in self-financing courses in aided and Government Colleges / Recognised institutions be admitted as part-time researchers.
Such candidates shall produce a no-objection certificate from the employer or head of the institution (in case of educational institutions).
C. INDEPENDENT PH.D. RESEARCH PROGRAMME :
Teachers with M.Phil. or equivalent qualification working in the University Departments / affiliated Colleges with atleast four years of teaching / research experience after obtaining M.Phil. degree may register for Ph.D. without a guide as part-time scholars.
However, those registered under this category of independent registration, can opt to work under a recognised guide at any stage after registration, with the prior permission of the University and on payment of a status change fee.
DURATION
A.FULL TIME:
The minimum period of research work is three years from the date of registration in the case of Master's degree holders; and two years from the date of registration in the case of M.Phil or equivalent degree holders.
The maximum period for completion of the Ph.D. programme for Master's Degree holders shall be five years in the case of full-time candidates and six years in the case of Part time candidates.
B.PART TIME:
The minimum period of research work is four years from the date of registration in the case of Master's Degree holders and three years from the date of registration in the case of M.Phil. or equivalent degree holders.
The maximum period for completion of the Ph.D. programme for Master's Degree holders shall be five years in the case of full-time candidates and six years in the case of Part time candidates.
Maximum period prescribed for M.Phil. degree holders is 4 years in case of full-time and 5 years in case of Part-time candidates.
REGISTRATION
The candidates who are selected and admitted should get themselves registered for the Ph.D. Programme. The registration will be done in January, April, August and November every year, subject to the condition that the candidate so registered, shall be permitted to appear for Part I examination only after completing the minimum period of 6 months, in the case of full-time registration and 12 months, in the case of part-time registration.
A candidate applying for registration shall do so, indicating the broad field of research which shall normally be related to the field of specialisation chosen for his / her Post-graduate or M.Phil. Degree.
The applications submitted for admission to Ph.D. course cannot be transferred to M.Phil. Course and vice-versa.
